Have you Passed or Failed SMOG WITH AFTERMARKET PARTS installed??

I would like to get some relevent SMOG test results first hand from those of you that have done it.

Has anyone been through a smog test with aftermarket parts installed?

Tuner, Exhaust, Turbo, Injectors, or anything relevant?

Or have you failed for any reason?

Please share your experience and what you were told and how you made it work in the end!!

It's nice to hear that stock trucks pass smog but what we really want to know is, What can I get away with and how?

    Thanks!

Except for a 6637 and the CCV, I've left mine alone.

I'm gonna' turn the doghouse around, tuck the hose up under the frame somewhere, and put my air box back on.

Easy-peasy return to stock. Should take fifteen minutes.

And another fifteen upon my return home.....

You ask a very good question for all of us to know the answer to!

so far the only trucks being tested are out of state transfers and transfer of titles. i dont know of anyone that has gotten a smog on their registration. 3 months into the year i believe lots would have seen this by now.

the big problem is how is a smog tech gonna know if your truck is modified thiers no emissions label under the hood! my buddy has done about 6 of them ca renew reg. he says its up to my discretion if you will pass or not. Smog techs hate diesels and just rather pass it to get those stinky ass trucks out of the shop. if i fail them and they'll come back for a retest.

Thanks for the replys so far!!

My main concern is the diagnostics scan. That info would be saved and transmitted to the DMV automatically, no discretion allowed on the part of the smog tech, unlike the completely subjective 'visual smoke test'.

Does the diagnotic scan show if you have a tuner or not. Most major modifications require a specific tune to work right. I know they say to just put it on a stock setting, but, DOES THAT REALLY WORK? I'd like someone who has actually done it and passed or not to reply.

Also, some modifications such as single shot injectors will not run right on a "stock" setting. So, will a custom tune that makes custom injectors run clean and right pass the smog diagnostics test. Again, I would like to hear from someone that has tried it and it worked.

Please, If you know or think you only passed because your smog tech overlooked a thing or two, please let us know so we dont go in expecting the same setup to pass at a different smog shop.

First place I went to didn't want to touch my truck because I had a K&N air filter on it and it didn't have a carb # on it somewhere. So I went online and got the carb # for it. Went back on saturday and he wanted to wait till monday so he could call the air resource board and check. So forget that clown I ended up going to a test only station in town and this guy didn't even care about the K&N , but I don't think this guy had A clue at what he was looking at. He asked me if my truck was a turbo diesel....WTF you don't see that huge hunk of aluminum on top called a turbo. Anyway no sniffer test required on trucks that didn't originally come with a cat. He just did a diagnostic check via the obd II plug and a visual check. But yet they charge you $30 dollars more because it's considered a heavy duty truck. I put my truck back to stock setting with my chip and rerouted the ccv back into the intake for the test....PASS

None of the diesels will get a sniffer test, cat or not.

It's good to hear you didn't have a problem with the DP tuner installed!! How long before the test did you set your DP tuner to the 'stock' position. I heard to do it a few days before just to be sure.
