Question Reprograming/Changing things to adjust for bigger tires?

How important is it to adjust the speedo in my '96?
Does it control the computer & then does that also effect the tranny shifts?
I've heard you can shorten the life of the trans by driving it with bigger tires if you don't have the computer or what ever reprogrammed or does mine still run the older style simple gear that needs to be replaced in the trans to adjust the speedo?

& then will I be required to change the gears to make everything right?

Whats the worse ( besides a speeding ticket ) I should expect to suffer from now that I'm running 37" tires?

You dont have to buy anything to program you 96. Their is a way to do it. I will try to look it up. You short out a wire under the glove box then put a number in the dash. I will look for the directions.

Here is a post i found on TDS, I did it on my OBS and only advice i have is make sure you do the measuring right.

Larger tires in general are harder on a trans just because it takes more energy to get them rolling. If you get a chip, the tuner might make slight adjustments for tire size but there really is nothing to really do. As Brian stated you can recal the speedo but that is about it.

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America , he said:
"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in... And how many want out." Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
    1. Jesus Christ
    2. The American G. I.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

I had a custom valve body put in mine before i did the chip too. Gave it FIRM shifts, might be a good idea for you too?
