The 2001 model year Powerstroke had a cat on the high HP manual transmission motor and no cat on the lower HP automatic trans motor. Many owners of the high HP motor took the cat off when they put on a 4 inch exhaust system. Check out this Ca. smog program link. Have the stock one cut and flanged with 4" flanges and then cut and flange your 4" pipe and bolt it in. Then make a test pipe out of the section you removed weld on flanges and you will be able to put it back in later. That is what I will be doing to Sheryl and John's trucks.

My 2000 eX does not have a CAT on it now, I am pretty sure it is stock exhaust. Can anyone confirm this year eX came without a CAT from Ford and will not need one to pass smog?
