    Egr delete

I'm sure its been discussed & debated many times, I have a 03 6.0 PSD with 150K on it. Just threw the EGR code a few weeks ago, cleared it & it came back. I'm assuming its toast, & looking for "the best" EGR delete setup. From what I have read, I want to stay away from the thin metal plate, & don't want to weld up my intake manifold. Anyone have some pointers for me? I'm somewhat of a newbie with the 6.0, only want to do this once!

Contact Loren at Diesel Tech or Bud at OC Diesel, both of them could help you out.

Diesel Tech or RCD? How hard are these to install, OC Diesel wants $1050 for labor.

Wow that's a lot of labor, is it that big of a job? I know these trucks can be a pain to work on but is it that bad?

Here at FCDP we offer a full EGR delete kit..here is some info that would typically be found on our website (which is down right now) along with some pictures.

What you will receive with our Full Delete Kit:

A modified intake manifold with the coolant passages rerouted and EGR valve removed. All parts used will be fail safe with aluminum fittings and radius's, you will receive 4 small band clamps and 2 small sections of hose that is made for high heat applications. Also, included with kit is a solid up pipe. (Description of solid up pipe found below)

Our kit is competitively priced and with this item you will have to return your core intake manifold and up pipe in working order. However we have two different ways of selling our deletes. One way (full) will include the solid up pipe and modified intake manifold. The second way is just the modified intake manifold without the up pipe. The only reason for this is because some people already have their up pipes blocked off and have no need for another up pipe. (NOTE: if you are using a sneaky style EGR up pipe delete you will need the full delete.)

0A We are not using brand new intakes or up pipes for every application. (you may receive a modified 03 intake manifold) Our intakes will be hot tanked, cleaned, clear coat of powder coating applied, pressure tested and guaranteed to be in working order upon arrival. With the EGR delete on 05 and up trucks you will get a CEL (check engine light) that may be turned off with a SCT tuner. *Certain strategy codes may still get a CEL even with SCT tuning* Note: we do sell the SCT tuner needed to disable this light.

All of our delete kits come with a lifetime warranty against any defects. If you have any issues, let us know and we will get it resolved. We installing the full EGR delete kit, we do recommend doing an oil change just to prevent any type of cross contamination of fluids. With every paid purchase for the full EGR delete kit, we will provide a PDF file on how to remove and reinstall the intake manifold, with all of your torque specs and sequences.

    Why our kit is better.

The reason why we say our kits are fail safe is because some kits use a pre-shaped 180* hose, we don't. With that pre-shaped hose, you run the risk of that extensive bend under extreme heat from the exterior (turbo) and the interior (temps as high as 230*) with that bend it COULD collapse or in some cases melt and in turn totally ruining your oil cooler. That will not happen with our kit. We also weld our intakes not screw or clamp parts.

Our EGR delete kits are intended for off road use only.

Full Delete kit with up pipe:

630 shipped plus a $250.00 refundable core fee ($350.00 for Canadian orders)

FCDP allows 2 weeks from the date of delivery to the date that you ship the core parts back to us, we can negotiate the core return timeline if need be and for Canadian orders. All core returns must be in working ord er, if they are not useable, core fee will not be refunded.

    Solid up pipe information:

FCDP offers a solid up pipe, we are the originators of the soli d up pipe, we have been duplicated several times, but we were the first on the market to do this. After cracking multiple flex sections after the EGR cooler was blocked off, we designed this up pipe.
The FCDP up pipe takes a stock EGR up pipe and removes the EGR cooler “y” , flex section and internal scoop on 05^ styl e trucks. This method is the best available. This EGR up pipe is merely a block off of heat, gases and pressure from entering the backside of the EGR cooler, this will drastically prolong EGR cooler life and will get you the distance away from the backside of the EGR cooler that you need to keep heat from soaking into the EGR cooler. With our solid up pipe we supply a cap for the backside of the EGR cooler. Other methods you see leave the flex section in and just take the “y” off, with time this method will surely fail, due to the fact that the EGR “Y” is a support for over 2’ of pipe, once its removed the next weak link is the flex section. With the heat that these trucks produce, vibrations and movement, this flex section will crack. This is why we designed the rigid up pipe, when the EGR is deleted FCDP’s way, the rigid pipe gives the support tat the 2’ of pipe needs. We have had these rigid pipes installed on20our trucks for several problem free years. With this style block off, if your EGR cooler is bad, this is not the fix, you will need the Full EGR delete kit.

Also here at FCDP we see a lot of people use a plate or freeze plug to block off the gases and heat from entering the E GR cooler. This method is far from the right way. With this method you will get heat soaking through that thin metal plate right back into the EGR cooler, exactly what you are trying to stop. Just illustration purposes consider 600-800* of exhaust gases hitting against the plate, here is where you see what we are talking about. And with blocking off the EGR cooler this way and leaving the “y” section you create a vertex of air, its trying to get into the EGR cooler through the “Y” but then hits the plate and has to come back out and then up, its very inefficient. With simply using the freeze plug on the 05^ trucks that internal scoop found on your up pipes acts as a torch on that thin metal plate and overtime it will melt, we have seen it happen time after time.

I'm super happy with Diesel Tech's set up. IMO one of the best kits out there and can be uninstalled if needed.

    EGR delete

I want to clarify something here, I saw this thread and immediately spoke to Bud about it at OC diesel shop (in mission viejo). He was quoting PARTS AND LABOR! Bud is willing to work with anyone especially on labor, and also will match anyones price. He is definitely one of the most honest and fair people I have ever worked with, which is the reason why he is the only independent shop that will ever work on my truck especially now that I'm out of warranty.

okay to re word my last post that was deleted. I am asking to original poster to please give the correct information when you post what a shop is trying to charge. The original poster makes it sound like OC Diesel shop is over charging when he actually quoted parts and labor together. Saying a shop is Charging over 1000.00 for labor for something that doesn't take 1000.00 dollars in labor, can ruin a shops reputation no matter who it is. That's all I was trying to say in the most non confrontational, no hurt feelings, politically correct way possible. ;) Bud will always work with anyone on especially labor, and will match anyones price.

What does everyone think of the egr block off plate vs a block off that uses factory style o rings. Any pros/cons with either?
