PSD Mojave wheeling trip Time & place info

Date: April 30th for those of you that plan to spend the night in a casino.
( The following morning, Sat May 1st. is when we actually start the trip )
    Start Time: 8 am
Meeting place: out front of the Riverside casino, in line with the entrance.
We will need to stop for ice & food & drink & fuel on the way to the trail head.

I'm looking around for a map of the trail.
Here's a peek at what it looks like.

Do any of you have GPS?
I'll have my I-Phone but doubt I'll get a signal the whole way.

Does any one live near an REI?
    Seems they carry this map.
    http://www.rei.com/product/777281

We need maps & what ever else you guys might have that tell us about the history of the trail.
Would make the trip more interesting I think..

Its two weeks away from now.

Lets get a current head count.

    So far theres Me. :)

Hmm, I thought this was going to be on Memorial day weekend. I guess I missed the date change. OK, so I'll put in for a couple of more days of vacation, shouldn't be a problem. Now I better get a room. Oh and I have a GPS. I'll see if I can get the topos for the area loaded.

Do we have any guitar players joining us on this trip?
I have a acoustic bass guitar I'd love to bring along on the trip to play as long as I have a guitar player to follow along with.. :)
I bought it for camping trips yet to this day have never used it on a camping trip.

There are some Google Earth .kmz files of the Mojave Trail here.

There is a good expedition report thread on an FJ Cruiser forum here with numerous pictures. I read the thread and it sounds like a fun trip. Here is a .kmz file from that thread.

I opened both of those files in Google Earth and got a pretty good idea of where the trail is.

The National Geographic map that is linked to in the first post here is supposed to be pretty decent from what I have read on other forums.

I Google earthed our meeting place.
The Riveside Casino is the big one at the top of the picture. ( the last one on Casino drive it seems. )
I made a square at the bottom corner of the parking lot where the big rigs park for us to meet at 8 am.

Its gonna be a great time no matter how many show up.
I love the beauty of the desert, & to see all the history along the way will be great.

Are you heading out Friday night?
Or showing up in the morning?
We could meet up & then go party the night before.

2 weeks to go... I feel like a little kid counting down the days to disneyland LOL!!!
Me and the little lady are definitely in! We've got our reservations set at the Aquarius for Friday and plan on arriving there mid day, we'll be leaving the SGV early morning on Friday if anyone wants to caravan. I've got a GPS built into the truck and can have the GF bring her portable Navi if needed.

I've got quite a bit of camping supplies so if anyone needs anything just post up and I'll bring extras. I've got a few propane torches and burners for lighting and can bring the portable stove if we think we'll need it. If we each bring some fire wood with us we should be good with a big bonfire Sat night.

I wouldn't mind having a large cookout that night either, after a day on the trails I think we'll be ready for a real meal.

How about truck prep... Any suggestions? Anyone bringing a 12V compressor? I was going to grab a cheapy from Harbor Freight otherwise. I'll have a decent toolbox with me incase of any breaks and I recommend you bring some tools yourselves.
