new here, thinking of trading up.

    hi everyone,

name is Jon, been lurking for a while. I went to your last meeting at AFE im the guy with the black and orange harley edition. my friend (fords4life) nate encoraged me to join.

So heres the deal, im lookin to trade up into a dually. my beloved F250 HD is just not leagal towing my 35' 5th wheel down the road.... my wife and i have been talking about getting into a dually for some time now. I test drove the 6.7 at the AFE meeting and WOW what a truck... but did you see the price tag? holy cow!!! so we are considering a used truck, im stuck between the 6.4L and getting another duramax... I like the ford better, and I belive it has the GVWR we need (13K) I found one at sunrise ford and we are going for a test drive tonight. ultamately we would like to try for a trade in plus cash and come out with out a truck payment, i hate debt!! thats one reason for considering used.

as we all know the 6.0 has its issues, but how about that 6.4? i know it will have its quirks too, but what should i really be concerened about? am i crazy to think it will be a great truck for the long haul and last me 10+ years?

our must haves in a truck is, F350 dually, CC, Diesel, 4x4... other small bells and whistles are a perk but not mandatory, cant be too picky buying used...

    thanks in advance!

Good to see you finally log on Jon! So far I haven't seen too many issues on the 6.4. Do you know what year it is?

Welcome to SoCaps Jon. That's a good looking Harley you're getting rid of...kind of a shame, but if it can't do what you need it to do then I guess you have no choice.

The only quirk I've heard of on the 6.4 is a radiator problem on some of the early builds, but I don't think it's anything major to take care of.

    thanks for the input guys!

the truck im looking at tonight is an 08'

i imagine i should ask for an oasis report right? and it should tell me each time it went to the dealer for service and repair right? is this something the dealer should be willing to do for me?

thanks! It is a hard decision to get rid of my truck.. you don't see too many black and orange HD's around, i love everything about my truck, but i would rather be leagal and safe... : )

Welcome. As long as the pin weight on the 5th wheel doesn't make your rear axle exceed the GWR you should be good towing it.

thanks for the tip, i have reserched the whole gvwr and axle ratings issues. the gvwr of the f250 is 8800lbs, the truck weighs in at 8000lbs. when hitched to the trailer the truck was over 10,000lbs and i was over on my axle by a few hundred pounds... but still under on my tires...

but thats all behind me now. i went to see bobby at sunrise ford last night.

    my solution-
    11' F350 dually with the 6.7!

I am hoping to pick it up either wednesday or thursday evening.

THANK YOU bobby for all your help!!!

Nice solution Jon...now since you'll be wanting to drive it and get it broken in before you start working it, you should bring it out to the meet at OC Diesel Shop this Saturday so we can all see it :peace:

LOL....Just from our brief conversation last night, it sounds like he got a sweet deal.

I thought it was funny that he called me and the conversation was something like.....
Jon - "Tell me now if there is any reason why I shouldn't buy an '11 6.7"
Me - "You called the wrong person if you want me to tell you no"
    Jon - "That's why I called you"

    LOL
