Hey guys...New member here. I have a 2001 psd with the 7.3 liter. Awesome truck!!!I've pulled my new 32' fifth wheel on about 6 trips with no problems until the last time I left my house. I got to the 5/14 split and turned around because the column shifter overdrive light was blinking. I read the dtc code with my super chips programmer and came up with a Kam 6 error. I have a trans temp gauge that only read between 190 and 200 when this happened.I asked about the error code and was told that this was only a code that meant the computer had been accessed. Way over warranty so who cares...Any thoughts on this???I just ordered the ats Torque converter and I'm putting a heavy duty trans cooler in.

Take out the speed sensor on top a the rear diff and clean it off and reinstall and if it doesn't work replace it. I think it is like a $25 part at ford.

Perhaps this has nothing to do with your problem but my overdrive button/light shorted out completely. Couldnt disengage it. Dont know of any code it may thave thrown. Just thought I would mention it, might help. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/shrug.gif

I had a similar problem a couple of times about a year ago. (still under warranty) I was climbing the Eastbound 8 out of San Diego and would hit some level road once in a while so I would engage overdrive. When I did the light began to blink. I was well into my trip so I decided to press on but first I pulled over and cooled the truck for a few moments then shut it of for 60 seconds, restarted and the light was gone. It happened once more during the climb but this time it wouldnt shift. I repeated the remedy and have had no problems since. I have still never been to the dealer. I am at 33,000 miles so I better though. Hope this helps.

Bob, thanks for the response. I wonder what the dealership would have told you about this. They wanted 200.00 just to read the dtc codes. I had no faith in them at all. I will be installing a new ats torque conv. this weekend to get rid of the week link in my psd. I know I'm slipping like crazy when I;m towing my toy house trailer...I can see it on my trans temp guage.

My OD light has started to blink a couple of times going and comming from Glamis with 31' 5er. One of the times I was pulling a 18' flatbed with a sand rail on it. I don't understand why it blinks, and either does the dealer. Any way, my trans fluid looks great so no harm there. well???????

Its a shame there would be costs ($200 http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/shocked.gif) to read codes, but the readers in many dealers are owned by the mechanics and the new diagnostic units are not cheap.

Many transmision shops can read your codes, and are familiar with some of the cryptic errors relating to trannies.

The KAM (Keep Alive Memory) error will relate to the small space of memory where modifications needed in driveability changes are stored as well as any "codes" or sensor errors encountered. This memory space is erased when the battery is disconnected.

The most common od light flashing fix, is as Gene stated. At least least your transmision doesn't go into "safe mode" which isn't fun.
