Just curious on some feed back for the price of a service for oil, filter, and lube.

I was reading the "other" forum site, and see that the average around the country seems to be about $50 and up.

Well, I was really shocked when my local Ford Dealership in Glendale quoted me $120 !!!! http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/shocked.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/shocked.gif
These guys have always been over priced. I use them for warranty work only.

For a comparison, I called Sunrise Ford (birthplace of SoCAPS http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/smile.gif) in Fontana and was quoted $80.

I'd like to know what others are paying?

Note: I do my own service...saves money, it's fun, and I know it's done right!

Rob I know what you mean.
But I do it because I enjoy working on cars or Trucks, besides with the money I save by doing it by myself I can buy more toys http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/smile.gif.

The last time I paid for it it was around $90 at Ken Grody in Carlsbad. I do all my own maintenance now because I feel the same way - it's too expensive, and I have to leave my truck there for half a day. That and after I got a look at the flunky doing it I decided that I trust my own work alot more.

Yeah I know what you mean Baja Traveler, I don't understand Why is it that any time you take a car to a mecanic they break more then they fix.

Costco Baby!
Buy a case of Chevron Delo 15/40 (6 gallons) for about $32.00
Buy a FL1995 Filter at Walmart ($9.97)

But a filter wrench (unless you have hercules grip) $10.00

But a bucket, 5 gallons, white with a 1/2 spigot (get creative at OSH or Home Depot) $4.99 plus maybe 3.00 for spigot. I used a 1/2" PVC ball valve with neopreme washers for the bucket. (email me for pic)

1. Drain oil into 5 gallon bucket
2. poke hole in filter to drain and then remove.
3. Install new filter, per instructions on box.
4. install drain plug.
5. install appropriate amount of oil.
Start up engine and enjoy your quality work.

Note: You may now put the 5 gallong bucket of oil on a table and drain the old oil back into the now empty 1 gallon containers (to return to Autozone or any recycling place).
Total time: 45 minutes
Total Cost: about $60

Subsequent Oil changes will cost you about $30 each. You can save a lot of money over time.
Plus, there's the added benefit of admiring your truck from underneath when you're doing it. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/smile.gif

Don't know what is charged, I prefer to do it myself for several reasons:

1. Doing it in my shop is quicker than driving somewhere and back.
2. I know it's done right.(I used to be a service writer, with some techs your worst fears are true.)
3. You can grease the front end and rotate the tires while the oil is draining.
4. Good chance to look things over on the underside.
5. Kinda fun to do it on a Sunday with NASCAR on the tube at the same time.
6. Makes the wife think I'm some kind of wrench!

I don't know about yours, but...there's shade under my truck http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/cool.gif I can fall asleep under there!

Also, have you ever had some work done to your car and wonder "did they do it right?". If you do it yourself, you'll know. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/wink.gif

I know....you're saying "who screws up and oil change?"...believe me...it happens.

If you don't mind me saying so...how about intalling a swamp cooler in your garage with some of your mod money?

Also, I see you live in Redlands. I lived there until a few years ago...Nevada Street, in the orange groves (in a house, not the trees.)

I MEANT TO SAY 111* HEAT. THATS HOW HOT IT HAS BEEN LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. HECK IF THE DEALER SCREWS SOMETHING UP, ILL MAKE SURE THEY TAKE CARE OF IT. IVE SPENT 45K ON THIS TRUCK LIKE MANY OF US HAVE SO I SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH PAYING AN EXTRA 5 BUCKS FOR THEM TO CHANGE IT. ESPECIALLY IN THIS HEAT. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif
