View Full Version : My SCMT is here!!

After months of back and forth thinking, I finally put the money down and ordered a new SCMT 1705 for my rig. It arived Thursday afternoon and I had it installed right after I got home from work. I loaded the lowest program (tow safe) to get a feel for the difference it would make. Now I'm one of those 'show me' people, so I was going to keep an open mind about the feel of my truck with the new program.

On my normal drive in to work this morning I could definitely feel a difference! http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif The throttle response was slightly mushy before, now its much more snappy. As I turned onto the main street, I hit the pedal as I was use to and chirped the tires. I was trying to be objective about the first drive with this new program, so I wasn't going to hot-rod-it into work. That was a REAL test of will I'll have you know! http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif The power was GREAT and WOW did it just want to run. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/bigshock.gif There was no smoke and no more mushy pedal. I had to pass on the freeway and was in 4th gear at 1900 rpm. When I hit the go pedal I was put back in my seat! What a great feeling that is! http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif

I will be making a trip to NV next week. I'm very interested to see how my mileage is. I have been getting 13-14 mpg around town and 18.5-19.7 mpg on the highway.

So far the SCMT 1705 has lived up to the claims made.
I will keep you posted! Remember, I'm only running the 70 hp program right now. Two more to try out in the future! http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm having a hell of a time keeping my foot out of it now. If I was in the highest setting, not only would my mileage suffer, I'd be needing new tires as well! http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif

I will get there, but I want to go thru the programs slowly to get as much realistic info as I can. I have lots of time to re-rubber the highways later. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif

Did the SCMT change your overhead computer. I have
herd they can effect the MPG reading. Sounds like a good
set up I am looking at the same set up.

I love the way my PSD responded to adding a chip. I am now in the market for the EDGE EVOLUTION. But this is just the beginning. Next you will be looking into propane and/or injectors. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/wink.gif

I don't have an overhead computer on mine, so I can't say if it is effected or not. I do like the feel it has given to my truck. It is definitely worth the money. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif

Matty: I don't have any plans for propane or any other Extreme engine perfomance products beyond where I am right now. My next upgrades will be in suspension, tires, exhaust... http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/confused.gif

I'll leave the propane to Gene's truck...and his cooking! http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif

Here is an update on my findings so far. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/news.gif

I topped off my tank in HB and headed out to Pahrump NV. On the way stopping at my brother-in-laws Baker property. We needed 4wd to get to it. After a couple hours shooting we continued to NV. We spent 3 days there before I filled up again. I was just under half a tank. The trip OD read 442.8 and I took on 24 gallons exactly. Thats 18.45 mpg. I had about 1K ponds of gear on board. At first I was concerned that my mileage had dropped but then I realized that during this trip I had used 4WD three times and made some 100 mph runs (just to say I did). My regular hwy mileage for 70 mph/2000 rpm is around 19.4-19.8 mpg. I'm very happy to say the least since I ran 90 percent of the time at 70-75 mph in 2wd and the other 10 percent in either 4WD or much higher speeds.

Here are some numbers for you:

70 mph/ 2000 rpm: 5 lbs boost/ 600 deg. PT w/o SCMT
3.5 lbs boost/ 550 deg. PT w SCMT 70 hp

Cajon Summit: 17 lbs boost/ 1100 deg. PT w/o SCMT Max
15 lbs boost/ 950 deg. PT w SCMT Max 70 hp

100 mph/ 2800 rpm: 22lbs boost/ 1050 deg. PT w SCMT 70 hp

The 100 mph run was done on an incline and the truck was still accelerating when I hit 100 and got out of it! http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/bigshock.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/bigshock.gif

On the down side: The throttle control in first and second at low rpm will feed back and surge. I could correct this but putting my right foot against the tran. hump as I was pushing on the go pedal.

Otherwise the response is much better than without the SCMT, and there is no surging under normal acceleration.

More to come with the 90 hp program. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif

Your 900 degrees up the Cajon summit is what I experience with cruise control set at 70 mph. Actually runs in the mid to high eights and at the steepest part just hits 900 or slightly more.

Know what you mean, a mild chip or tuner really improves the driveability.

Jeff....

Went for a ride today just for the fun of it. Went up the Cajon pass and watched the guages.

Set the cruise control on 65 MPH. Temp was 99 degrees

Most of the time in the 800 degree range for the climb. For a short stretch at the top just touched 900 degrees. Most of the climb boost was at six pounds, on the steepest part it was seven.

Re-set the mileage overhead when the climb started. Cleared the top and was showing 15.3 miles per gallon.

Never came out of overdrive.

Submitted to you for your comparisons.

Dennis. PS: My chip is probably what would be considered an 80 hp. superchip.

Dennis,

Does your chip affect your Overhead computer? I was hearing how chips/tuners seem to make them goofy. I personally don't have an overhead computer, so I can not say one way or the other.

Thanks for the info, I'm sure it helps those out there loking for a chip or tuner.

The wilder the chip...the more off the overhead console is.

OK guys and gals here is the latest on the SCMT.

I have bumped it to the 90 hp program and here are my initial results on my trip out to Baker and back.

The power is slightly better. Now I say that because the jump from 70 hp to 90 hp is a small leap compared to stock to 70 hp. The 'seat of the pants' meter says there is a difference, just not huge. However, I can hit 22+ pounds of boost quicker and there is a slight increase in smoke.

As far as mileage goes, I think I need to do some more testing. The last time I made this trip, I only had about 700 to 800 lbs in the truck. This time it was closer to 1200 lbs and I was running near 80 mph most of the way out and some stop and go traffic on the way back. The amount of 4wd time was the same. My mpg was 17.36. Not great, but not bad. And not conclusive, so more time is needed.

EGT's were in the normal range, very similar to the 70 hp program. Under load on hills, it did seem to have more "snap" than before.

I will give another update after I have driven it around town to see what the mileage does.

Jeff http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/flag.gif
