I used to by young and tough like those guys and thought nothing of it. Now, I really admire those brave men who are actually defending us.

You should be proud, as I know you are.

Gary,
If you guys need something over there, just let us know and we can see what we can do. This is not Nascar, the point is to help support our troops in Iraq. Now that your heading over, I think that we should be able to support one of members. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/usa.gif

Absolutley, Just let us know how we can help. We will figure a way to do it.

Mark's group is set to stay over there a year or 18 Months.

When do you leave?

I don't see why we can't sponsor more than one group.

I have developed a plan to utilize some of the money you have all contributed. What do you think of this idea.

Mark is home on leave and he was talking about some of the stuff that is Prized by the troops over in Iraq. The biggest thing is food stuffs that are not "Army chow" candy and sweets are nice but what would be better is real food that does not spoil easy. He said that Hickory Farms Beef Stick is one of the most prized possesions.

Here is my plan, I want to go to Hickory Farms and get lots of meat and cheese and send them a Holiday Pack. It takes quite a while to get packages to them so I would like to do is send one in the next couple of weeks.

What do you think?

Sounds like a great idea. You might talk to the people at the Hickery Farms store and let them know what you are doing and see if they will cut you a bit of a deal.

I think it is a great idea. My wife and I have not donated any money as of yet and would like to help. How much do you plan on spending at hickory farms?

StickyFingers
11-08-2004, 10:28 AM
I was kinda thinking that I would stumble in there on a week day and try to talk to the manager and see what kind of deal we could get. I figure between the donation thing and the quantity purchase we might get a pretty good deal.
I know that there is about 30 guys in the platoon. So at lease 30 things would be a good start.

These guys are over there keeping our freedom for us the least we can do is give them a little extra support during the time of year when they are going to be away from their families and friends. Come on you guys hit that reply button and show some support and give us your ideas on this GREAT project we have going here. I think the Hickory Farms is a great idea and the stuff lasts a long time. Sheryl's son Mark said that a beef stick is like a gold bar and you can get a lot of stuff in trade for one.

This may be a lame idea but here goes. I'm not sure how these guys are able to send/receive email, but they do. I was wondering whether or not these guys use a satellite connection for the internet. If so, my idea is to send them a laptop computer so they can email their friends and family anytime they aren't busy ducking bullets or shrapnel. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/shrug.gif

This may sound kind of campy, but how about sending some home baked goodies along. You know, maybe a BUNCH of us could get our wives to bake some cookies or something to send along. Might make it a little more personal. Don't know how many of the guys could do it, personally, I find that when the cookie dough gets hot, it starts dripping through the grill! http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/rofl.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/rofl.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/rofl.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/rofl.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/rofl.gif

They have a sort of internet cafe thing. There is quite a waiting line to get to the computers. I will ask Mark if that would help.

They say the biggest difference between this and WWII is EMAIL. Mark does not get to the computer as much as I would like but he has been very busy. He says when he is off the computers are busy.

Swanee, Yes they LOVE home cooked stuff. Sometimes it is crumbs by the time they get it but they eat those too. So go for it, you BBQ the dough and I'll send it.

Sheryl,

I have a vacuum packer. We could vacuum pack them, which would make them last longer. We'd just have to figure out how not to crush the cookies in the process.

The lap top would not work. Some NCO would have a great time with it but the PFC's would never see it. I guess they do not share well. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/shocked.gif http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/grin.gif

He said that his buddy gets baked goods double bagged and double boxed, and it works pretty good. My sister sent some brownies vacuum packed and it sucked all the air out of the brownie. He said it was still good though. http://www.socaps.comimages/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sheryl,

what if we send it to Mark as a gift from you, and just let him know that it's for all the PFC's to use?

Or we could send two. The first one for the PFC's. The NCO could get the 2nd one that had a virus in it that crashes the hard drive right after flashing the words "Stingy MF".

I went shopping today. I checked Hickory Frams and the 16 OZ beef steaks were $12 EA. They offered us a Whopping 5% if we spent over $400. But checking the paper found Target had the exact same thing for $4.69. We got them, cheese and crackers and snacks for less money than it would have been at Hickory Farms.

We also bought some for Gary (SuperF350's) group. I have not received an answer from him with an address to send this stuff but I am sure we will hear from him soon.

Sawnee & Judy are going to bake up 30 Doz cookies for the guys and I will send it all out together. It will be several boxes because of weight.

If any one else has something to add to the fiest just let me know.

I am excited that SoCAPS was able to brighten the holidays for these Guys and Gals. If only a little bit.

I am so proud of my sons and all the other "kids" who put them selves on the line for us.

As a matter of fact I herd from Nancy, SuperF350's wife. She said his favorite thing to eat is Jerkey. He has only been in Iraq for a couple of months so he will be there for a while. There are only 6 Guys in his squad. So it will be easier than we thought.

I can either forward his address to you or I can pick it up and ship it.

Nancy is pretty excited about us sending them stuff.
