yes you do have to take of the DPF... you will not see any real difference if you do not take it off..

if your not ready to take it off then my recomendation is to just leave your truck stock.... you will just be wasting your money until you get that thing off...

if your ok with taking it off your looking around 1500 for the complete package not including an intake...

I guess it stays stock then. With only 23000 miles on it I dont want to risk getting turned down for warranty work. Im sure that a missing DPF plus the "signature" of tunes on the ECM will make them decline repairs. Guess I am in the market for a used Ranger to get me to and from work.

just so you know the DPF is bolt on and bolt off... if you had to take it into the dealers you could just put it back on...

What about the ECM? I have heard that the new ones will show that I have tuned the truck even if I return it to stock setting. Does anyone make a "tuner" to make it so dealer cant see it was ever tuned?

Well if you just "heard" about the pcm doing that then you should check your sources. im pretty sure innovative and spartan would have said something about that. But anyways just buy a daamn tuner a ddpf delete pipe and enjoy your truck!!!!!!

yah i dont think any tuner is undetectable... but according to matt at spartan theirs is not detectable..... dont know if its true or not...

now their was another guy that made a thread that had a spartan on his truck that went to the dealers and needed to replace the engine or something major on his.... well they flew in one of those main diesel techs for him to hook up to his super computer and he didnt not detect it and they warrantied the engine...

so who konws whats true or not

Well for now i figure why risk it. I will just buy a used Ranger to use for daily transport and use the 450 for towing. With 23000 on the truck I dont want to get warranty declined. Besides 22-23 mpg at 1.52 a gallon versus 12 mpg at 2.16 is going to save some money towards other parts for the truck like bumpers and a winch

If Ford wants to be hard on you all they have to due is look at the bolts on the DPF and see if they have been messed with and they can probably denie warranty for tampering with an emmission control device. Not trying to a harda$$ just telling it like it is

my mileage went from 11 to 17!!! i have burned half a tank driving like a jackass and still am getting 16.8!!!!!!!

i imagine if i drove good and on a highway i could hit 20 all day long!

since the SCT software for custom tuning is so new we are still working out some bugs.

I saw a good point here, and just wanted to chime in. Even if Ford wasn't smart enough to coat the bolts with special material so that any tampering would show, I'll put money on it that the computer DOES keep track of the number of times the truck has been turned on and the number of times the truck went into regen since the last turn on. Or if not that, then something more simple like the number of engine hours elapsed since the last regeneration. I've also heard that they can take a look at fuel injector spray patterns to determine if an "out-of-spec" (read: non-Ford) program was used/installed. Really: there are a TON of parameters both physical and electrical that Ford can analyze to determine if tampering has occurred.

Just remember: regens are like clockwork. The fact that they occur are easily trackable. They happen... pretty consistently. You might not notice it because you're passively regenerating, but a regeneration is a regeneration nonetheless!

You gotta pay to play, folks.
