    Question Oil Leak Question..

I have the most bizarre oil leak..

I’ve had my truck since September ’06, and have 6600 miles currently. Taken it back to the dealer in Dec ’06 for an oil leak, which they diagnosed as the rear main. Fine, they replaced the rear main, all is good, right??

Leak comes back after 2000 miles, so I call the dealer, he gives the dye to put into the oil, great. Clean off the bell housing drive it for another 1000 miles, no oil leak??

Now, the leak came back after 3000 miles.. Wiped off the bell housing again, no leak after driving it around some more.

Does anyone know or have had this happen?

    Thanks

    Oil Leak

Well, we'll see, as this week I'm planning to take my truck in. Not only for the emissions recall, but for the oil leak.

    I'll keep you posted.

I think I had the same thing, minus the rear main, but there is some kinda assembly lube they use that oozes out over time. I noticed it on mine when the lube oil was clean, this stuff was black and sticky. Pop the little rubber cover off the bell housing and stick your finger in. If there is no oil on the inside, I'd think you do not have a gasket problem. Just make sure the engines off first!

    Cool Oil Leak Found!

Well, the dealer found the leak. Cam Sensor O-ring.

And to get to it, they had to drain the cooling system, remove the AC compressor, fan and fan shroud, etc...

You know, I would hate to think how much this costs if I had to pay for it. I may just consider getting rid of my PSD for a V10.

    We'll see how it goes..

I have the same leak I suspect. It is coming down the right side of the motor. I am taking mine back after I reach 10K miles in a month or so. That way I can get the fuel filters changed, get the recall done, and have a rental car free on Ford. No wonder they are in bad shape...btw recalls and the continued oil leaks, sooner or later the profit made on these engines turns to dust.
