Unhappy High Pressure Oil Pump Died...:(

On my way up to Big Bear with the whole family and gear for a nice snow boarding weekend (My son's 16th birthday) the '04 Excursion decided to die on the 215n. I took it to a place called Murrieta Diesel and he said that the high pressure oil pump is not putting out enough pressure and it's a $2K repair. I've gotta get it done, and from the symptoms, it sounds correct. Is this a regular problem? Is there a way to prevent it from happening again?

2004 Excursion. 112K miles, Edge with Attitude.
Had the Turbo replaced under warranty at 80K
4" exhaust, turbo back - no Cat
    Cool air intake

Can't say that I hear about this being a continuous problem with the 6.0. I know that if mine ever goes, there is an aftermarket unit from DS that will replace the stock one. Might be something to look into.

    Mods to come:
Mag-Hytech rear diff cover - It's at home waiting!
    Custom rear bump mod!
    Upgraded brakes
    Dieselsite tranny filtration system
EGR cooler delete (when it's time)

Mine went out at 110k. I think my repair was about the 1800 but covered under my extended warantee.

I had the truck fixed at a place called Murrieta Diesel and they did a great job. Jesus replaced the oil pump, upgraded the programing to fix a rough idle at startup, and a couple hoses that were worn.

It was quite a bit of work and he did it all for about $2K.

He's a Master Ford Tech that just opened his own shop. If I didn't live so far from him, I'd use him more often.

What is the normal HPOP Pressure range? I have yet to install my HPOP Gauge, but it is sitting in the garage waiting. Then I will know if it starts to go, if and when that ever happens.

I have heard that the lower HPOP pressure can damage your injectors, but I do not know the timeline for the damage.
