Shredded injector O-rings, Jody's live tuning, and John Wood! Gotta LOVE it!

Most of y'all know Jody came out to California to do some live tuning at John Wood Automotive in Holtville, and then on to Modesto at Terminator Engineering, at Joey's place. In fact, Jody is still at Joey's until Sunday.

Back in November (right after I bought my truck), I talked with John about installing some AC code injectors when Jody came to town for live tuning sometime in January (the date hadn't been set yet).

Well, Monday last week John called me up to make sure I still wanted the injectors, so he could order them. Unfortunately, back in mid December, I suffered an extremely bad flare up of my sciatic nerve, and the docs were trying to determine if I needed surgery or not. I told John the money I had set aside for the injectors might be needed for surgery, but that I would still be down because I told Jody I'd drive him from John's shop in SoCal up to Joey's in the Central Valley.

Steroids, valium, soma, ibuprofen, and aggressive physical therapy showed marked improvement and the docs said I most likely wouldn't need to have an operation. But more importantly, the meds and therapy allowed me to sit in my truck longer than 10 minutes without needing to stop and stand up to relieve the pain.

Jody would have had a lot of fun stopping every 10 minutes!

Anyway, the Friday Jody arrived at John's place, I got the word surgery was a no-go so I called John and had him order the injectors.

Man am I glad I did!

When John pulled my injectors, several O-rings on most of them were cut, shredded, ripped, and falling apart. Apparently the previous owner changed the O-rings and used inferior crap.

I always wondered why my truck's idle sounded markedly different than my wife's Excursion at idle.

Well, John installed the AC codes Tuesday, Jody installed a "starter" tune so we could begin our trek up to Modesto, and Wednesday morning away we went.

While enroute, Jody created a BUNCH of tunes for me.

No start, modified stock, high idle, 20tow, 40tow, 60tow, 80tow, decel, 60 econo, 80 econo, 120 race, 140 aggressive, my specifically requested "counter measures" smoke tune, and drive through.

Over the 9+ hour drive, I dare say Jody was tuning and tweaking my tunes for no less than 3 hours!

Good gravy my truck purrs like a kitten now! The weird sound it had at idle is no longer there (those O-rings were fubar'd) and my baby idles and runs smoother than a baby's bottom, all because of Jody's tuning ability!

When John changed out my injectors, he threw the clamps, pipes, connectors and stuff in his parts washer and it looked like he was installing new parts when he started bolting them back on my truck!

    Their customer service was outstanding!

A shout out goes to Anthony (hotstik) too for helping John out with my truck.

If you guys can ever get to a live tuning event with Jody, don't think twice, just do it. You will NOT be sorry!

It was a ton of driving for me, but well worth it!

Seriously, how often does a person get to pick the brain of one of the premier tuners for our rigs, for over 9 hours?!?! :D There was no escape for him! Mwahahahahahahahahahah!!!

I'm a little jealous that you had that oportunity. I'd love to have had that chance to talk to him for so long. I think I only got about 5 minutes to talk to him, he was super busy making tunes for everybody and working on the dyno.

I did tell him that the truck wouldn't move but that was my trucks fault. Jody, it never did it again and I have been on it pretty good over that last few days. Just light loads, that's what the other truck is for.

I'm suprised your truck even ran with torn up injector o-rings!! I can't get enough oil pressure in my system to even start my truck, let alone have gotten it up to Jody in Modesto to tune it. Let me ask this, did your truck have a surge at idle....very noticable, and did a lot of smoke come out of the oil fill when you took the cap off? Mines doing this and can't keep pressure in the system, especially when the oils hot.

Johns place in Holtville is actually a bit closer to you than Joey's in Modesto.

No surging, and since I've only recently purchased the vehicle, I've not had the occasion ever arise where the engine was running and I had the 710 cap off.

PS - 710 cap is that old blonde joke about the oil cap. I'm in one of those moods tonight.
