    More questions about EGT's

More regarding EGT, I have a stock '03 7.3L, I need a little information regarding measuring the EGT.
From reading posts it seems like 1300F is about the max temp you would want to see sustained, pulling a trailer up a grade, and if you do this and stop at the top of the grade you should idle to get the temp down to around 300F to save the Turbo.
Now for the questions, is the 1300F measured before or after the turbo?
Is the 300F measured before or after the turbo?
Can I hose clamp a type k thermocouple to the outside of the pipe and get a good reading or do I need to install a probe?

1300 is measured before the turbo

    300-350 also before the turbo

The probe must be in the pipe and NOT on the out side.

On the 7.3 you can drill the up pipe and clamp a probe in it, Isspro has that type of mount

Why would you want to stop at the top and let all that built up heat set there, just keep moving and it will cool down much better when it is moving.

    Just my $.02

The best wat to get the correct EGT reading is to put a probe inside the exhaust manifold.

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America , he said:
"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in... And how many want out." Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
    1. Jesus Christ
    2. The American G. I.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.
