    Re: intermittent fuel leak

    Doesn't sound like any fun.
You might be able to get in there with a flashlight and a mirror from under the truck to see what it is. Sounds like a hose or fitting at the top front of the tank. You may have to pull the bed or drop the tank. But on the bright side, while you've got access to it you may as well harpoon it!
    (How about that........poetry........truck poetry!)

    Re: intermittent fuel leak

sounds like you got fuel in the valley somewhere or maybe off the back of the head at the fittings there. The mechanical lift pump in the center behind the fuel filter housing is 90 percent likely the source as they all are known to leak after a few years even though they still work fine.

There is a large drain hole in the block casting that lets fuel and oil leak out kind of along the bellhousing edge and over the starter motor. It kind of looks like a rear main seal leak since it follows the edge and down to the trans cover.

I have heard others needed to fix a leaky plug for the fuel filter heater or pressure regulator o-ring on the side of the filter housing, but my money is on the fuel pump. btw, even if you wash it all at with brake cleaner, it is still difficult to see if the pump is the part actually leaking. I just replaced mine and it solved the problem.

The job is not fun... If you have a CA model with the bosch fuel pulse damper for splitshot injectors, then I had to remove the turbo to get it all taken apart. If it is not like that, then expect it to take about 3 hours less.
