Have many people here put an intercooler in their trucks? Getting ready to do one myself. gathering parts right now. The whole job hinges on the early '99 "Y" pipe which go for a pretty penny so I think I'm going to have to make mine. Would you all like me to post how?
How much are you willing to spend for an early 99 Y pipe ??

Hi SuperDF350 I sent you a PM. Anybody know is the 6 liter cooler better than the 7.3 cooler. Will it fit? It's going in my '96. I just bought a little air recip. saw for the radiator support material removal. I gotta get a pyrometer and hook it up so I can see what EGT's are before and after this mod.
Yes they are supposed to be bigger (about 30% bigger from what I understand) I dont know if it works for your truck, but I want one because they are a good mod for my truck that is fairly easy and cheaper than an aftermarket intercooler. I know some of them have plastic end tanks and some have metal. Now as for the metal, I am not sure if it is aluminum or what.

So I've been hunting for this part for about a month (the early'99 Y-pipe) and I'm getting ready to fabricate one and Weweld has one that he's willing to part with. It came in the mail today. Thanks Gene! Just a couple more clamps and some mandrel bends and I'll muster up the courage to start. Wish me luck.

The 6.0 IC's are a lot harder to install in the older body style trucks. if you want, I have a clean 7.3 IC in my garage you can just have. You would just need to drive up here and come get it.

Thanks Mattymx That is quite generous but no thanks. Appreciate the info. Is there a lot more 'fitting and cutting to make a 6.0 fit? I don't want to cut into the frame or anything. The reason I asked about the 6.0 cooler is because SuperDF350 had 2 for sale. I currently have a 7.3 cooler in my garage I'm getting ready to install. Just trying to collect info. so I do the best mod. I can. I don't think I want to do it twice.

I am new to this site but I was going to just buy a aftermarket intercooler for my 97, but after reading this post I am very interested in just retroing other year truck intercooler into my own. I still don't know why they left them out for these years. If anyone of you guys can let me know the parts I will need that would be great and Ftreefitty if you would post how and pics, awesome.

There's differences in each one I've found but that's the fun part, applying yourself anf getting something for your efforts.
